Afterward, Mustaine vowed revenge by forming a band that was faster and heavier than Metallica. After seeing Samuelson perform with Megadeth as a trio, Poland went backstage and suggested an impromptu audition as lead guitarist for the band; he joined Megadeth in December 1984.
